Improves Control but Not Range Friendly
The Ferfrans MBM cuts reacquisition time to about half of that with a standard flash hider (for me) so it's doing what I want it to do. The downside is the report which is as loud as a Mosin M44 but much more percussive for people standing to the right and to the left. Slip on the CRD however and the perceived noise drops to below that of a typical AR. There is a noticeable but not objectionable increase in recoil with the CRD and the loss of brake efficacy is somewhat offset by the weight of the CRD.
My MBM is mounted to a stainless Ice Arms 16" barrel and the combined weight of the MBM and CRD is noticeable. Not sure how I'd feel about carrying the combination all day but I guess I'd probably leave the CRD off in a situation like that.
The MBM/CRD is supposed to come with shims but mine were missing when received. Ramon, from Ferfrans, responded quickly and I had replacements within 1 or 2 business days. A lot of Ferfrans products are made in the US but these items are made in Taiwan, if that's important.
The CRD attaches to the MBM by means of a locking collar that engages an iris like mechanism when rotated. The leaves of the iris lock into a groove on the MBM. This locking mechanism seems a little sensitive to dirt as the residue from a hundred rounds combined with some lube caused the action to gum up.
Overall, highly recommended if you need both muzzle and noise control but not at the same time.
