AR15 Recoil Reduction
AR15 Recoil Mitigation Package - Want To Reduce Or Eliminate Recoil?
There can be lots of reasons why you might want to do what you can to reduce (or even eliminate) recoil from your favorite AR15. Maybe you want tighter shots. Maybe you want faster times between shots. Maybe you like to include your kids on trips to the range. Whatever the reason, reducing felt recoil (or even eliminating it completely) is indeed possible, enjoyable, and has real world implications and benefits.
There are many products on the market that reduce felt recoil all by themselves, but to glean the best results (especially if you want to eliminate felt recoil completely) you will probably want to utilize one or all of the following products in the Recoil Mitigation Package:
- A lightweight buffer
- A tuned buffer spring
- An effective muzzle brake
- A low mass bolt carrier
- An adjustable gas system
Lightweight Buffer
Whether your AR15 rifle has a rifle length buffer system or the more popular carbine length buffer system, we have a lightweight buffer for you that replaces the heavier buffer with a much lower mass buffer - the Taccom Ultra Lightweight Buffers For AR15 Style 5.56/.223 Rifles. The Taccom Ultra Lightweight Buffers reduce the primary and secondary recoil of the weapon by replacing a heavier buffer with a much lower mass buffer. The Ultra Lightweight Buffers allow the recoil spring (aka buffer spring) to return the bolt carrier group into battery faster and smoother because there is less reciprocating mass. Thus, giving you an overall smother running rifle and much tighter double taps and follow up shots.
The Taccom Ultra Lightweight Buffers are available in 2 different weights - carbine and rifle:

Tuned Buffer Spring
We carry several tuned (or reduced strength) buffer springs, but the most popular and economical choice is from Taccom. Made from premium stainless steel piano wire, the Taccom Reduced Recoil Buffer Spring does exactly what its title implies - it reduces felt recoil.
With a factory buffer spring the bolt carrier group is pushed forward into battery much faster and harder, causing the sights to come off target. This source of recoil is known as the secondary recoil. The Taccom Reduced Recoil Buffer Spring reduces the secondary recoil of the weapon by slowing the speed/travel of the bolt, minimizing the felt recoil when the bolt is put back in to battery, thus giving you an overall smother operating rifle and much tighter double taps and follow up shots.
The Taccom 10% Reduced Recoil Buffer Springs are available in 2 different lengths - carbine and rifle:

Muzzle Brake
By strategically and intentionally redirecting some of the gasses leaving the muzzle of the barrel, muzzle brakes are very effective in reducing felt recoil for your AR15 or AR style rifle. There are a lot of muzzle brakes on the market from which to chose and we carry muzzle brakes from all the best manufacturers in a variety of makes and models from single chamber to 3 chambers, adjustable or fixed, and in a variety of finishes.

Low Mass Bolt Carrier
In the world of CNC machining time is money, and the more time it takes to machine away unwanted weight the more the bolt carrier will cost. Besides skeletonizing a carrier made from steel, there are other less common ways manufacturers reduce the weight in their bolt carriers such as the use of different materials like aluminum and/or titanium. Regardless of what material is used, the use of a light weight bolt carrier, also known as a low mass bolt carrier, will be important to feel less recoil.
We carry several bolt carriers made from steel, titanium, and aluminum that have been skeletonized for maximum weight reduction. Regardless of what kind of lightweight bolt carrier you are looking for we have it, plus we carry products only from the best and highest quality manufacturers. Adjustable Gas System
The most common or well known method of adjusting a gas system is the use of an adjustable gas block, which reduces or adjusts the flow of gas by bleeding the gas out of the gas block to only the minimum pressure necessary to drive the bolt carrier. Another lesser known method (but equally as effective) of adjusting gas coming back to the bolt carrier is the use of an adjustable gas key. Regardless of how it is done, reducing the flow of gas to only the minimum pressure necessary to drive the bolt carrier has a significant effect on reducing felt recoil.
Inherently, AR15 rifles do not have much in the way of felt recoil, but even the slightest recoil hampers target acquisition, widens shot placement, etc. With the addition or replacement of a few parts on your favorite AR15 rifle you can see that recoil can easily be reduced and even eliminated completely. As stated above, there are a lot of products on the market that reduce felt recoil all by themselves, but to glean the best results (especially if you want to eliminate felt recoil completely) you will probably want to utilize one or all of the following products in the Recoil Mitigation Package:
