Forward Controls Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin

The Forward Controls Design Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin is a strengthened AR buffer retainer machined with Swiss machines from 17 4 stainless steel bar stock, and heat treated to H900 hardness. The Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin features a reinforced tip that is 10% larger (0.102) than TDP spec (0.093). Forward Controls Design did not want the pin to be timed (as the case with a rectangular tip), so the pin retains the TDP buffer retainer's versatile round tip and is installed per TM instructions. 10% is as much as FCD could increase before encountering receiver extension timing incompatibilities.

When all the systems in an AR function properly, one could argue that a reinforced buffer retainer is not necessary. Many of us have had this inexpensive part break and toss its tip into the lower receiver, usually in the trigger group and cause a jam. The pin's billet construction and reinforced tip aim to mitigate this; and this part could simply be viewed as cheap insurance.

Forward Controls Design does not coat nor polish their Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin. It is stainless steel and an internal part; you receive it the way we receive it from Forward Controls Design; and we have seen them in a variety of colors ranging from a bronze sheen to a lighter silver (raw stainless) color. The Forward Controls Design Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin is compatible with all AR based weapons that uses standard/TDP spec buffer retainers such as the AR15 and M16 rifles with carbine receiver extensions. It is also compatible with Vltor A5 system receiver extensions as well as the 308 AR platform since 308 ARs also use standard/TDP spec buffer retainers.

Note:
- Always wear eye protection while handling springs under pressure, spring loaded pins and detents. Spring is not included.
- The Forward Controls Design Reinforced Buffer Retaining Pin is not a fix for out of spec lowers with incorrectly positioned buffer retainer hole. If you detect excessive wear marks on the buffer's front face, it is advisable to warranty exchange your lower receiver.
- Compatible with PWS Enhanced carbine receiver extension.
- Buffer tubes timing on the receiver can vary. While a buffer tube can rotate past dead center (with the buffer tube covering and retaining the buffer retainer) by 45 degrees or more on one receiver, it might only be able to do 15 degrees or less on another. Also, different buffer tubes have different timing values.

Does the job

Can't tell you if this is any more "durable" than a standard pin because I've never had one fail before on me. However, I'm using this on my 450 Bushmaster AR and hope it provides the reinforcement necessary for the higher recoil. Seems to be well made and locks my buffer tube in well
